Description

Letter from Edward Thomas to his wife, Helen Thomas. Archival reference: 424/1/1/1/1/102
promised to let me have that Mrs. Nobel's letters when I came home.

I am sorry to be making a reputation for untrustworthiness even with you, Sweet heart, and on such a night, cold, as my grating throat tells me, and yet clear and pleasant.

But I could not get the bicycle, my purse was short my foot sore, and besides there are people to supper who demand my company by 9 o'clock - so I calculated I should have exactly had time to go to [illegible] college and back with no
moment for speech or other happiness. You can not pardon me - I do not ask you to - only I must seek to show how partly excusable I am. Nor do I much mind if I succeed in that even. What I do care about is - that you should not remain unhappy or fearful after the actual moment of disappointment
Tomorrow night - bicycle or not - whether Harry can see us or not - I

shall be at Ezot Cottage at 7.30 or before. If you are not there, I shall go on to Bath Road.

Till then, peace, little one - I hope you will have health and peace and hope - at least - health. Peace - for you need not have hope. Goodbye. My own sweet little one, Goodbye. Edward.

I very much want the last Speaker but one; you
