These two photos from the collection of Edgar Morgan show the kind of dangerous conditions facing miners working in the mines, especially those who had to work underground. It was dark with only  ‘tallow’ candles to lighten the darkness - and it was also wet with dangerous paths and levels. The photographs were taken in 1987 by Ifor B. Richards.
