Brain Mead - Local Business Owner
Description
Brian first became aware of Valleys Kids when they rented parts of the factory he owned, around 10–15 years ago. His connection to the building, however, goes back much further—he has ties to the factory since 1957, when his father worked there, and he later joined as an apprentice in 1967. Over the decades, he maintained involvement with the factory, eventually selling the main building to Emir Avin, who renovated it, while Brian retained some units. Valleys Kids later took over these units, gradually using and managing the space.
Brian sees the factory as a vital community hub, hosting multiple activities, tenants, and events that benefit people of all ages. He emphasizes the building’s positive impact on Porth, noting that it provides a safe and versatile space in a town that has seen economic decline. He hopes Valleys Kids continues to receive funding and support, viewing it as an essential asset to the Valleys, fostering community engagement and opportunities for young and old alike.
