Katherine Masgrave became involved with Valleys Kids (then Bike Club) shortly after moving to the Rhondda as a child. She initially attended Bike Club and after-school activities, later spending several years there before becoming involved in drama as a teenager. The drama provision gave her a sense of freedom, confidence and a safe space at a time when she was being bullied at school. It allowed her to explore her identity, build self-esteem and develop a love of reading and learning. Katherine credits the support of staff and the creative environment at Valleys Kids with helping her grow in confidence. She believes these experiences played a key role in her decision to attend university, where she recently graduated with a degree in history and archaeology. Katherine looks back on Valleys Kids with fond memories and remains strongly connected to the organisation, recognising its lasting impact on her life.
