The Factory Art Group

Description

Members of the PenygPorth Valleys Kids art groups describe how they first became involved and the impact it has had on their lives.

Several joined after retiring and looking for new purpose, creativity, and community. Others heard about the group through friends, the Front Room Project, or long-standing connections with Valleys Kids. Many had an interest in art but lacked confidence due to negative school experiences. Through the group, they discovered they could draw and create, and were encouraged to explore different art forms.

They speak warmly about the friendships formed, the welcoming atmosphere, and the inclusive nature of Valleys Kids—free, accessible, and open to everyone regardless of ability, mobility, or finances. Members highlight the many opportunities the group has offered, such as exhibitions, museum visits, festivals, trips to London, and residential art weekends at Bryn Gwyn

Valleys Kids is described as playing an important role in the community by providing a safe, supportive space where people feel comfortable sharing personal challenges and supporting each other. Through the group, many have also joined other activities like choirs, walking groups, and the WI, showing how the connections made here ripple into wider community life.
