Desk-Based Assessment and exploratory trench report, Ruperra Roman Military Complex, 2026
Description
This document is the result of several small targeted trenches alongside additional structural observations recorded along the waterway of the Ruperra Roman military complex.
The report records a number of structural relationships within the landscape, including:
• a roadway alignment running broadly SW–NE across the site
• associated ceramic drainage infrastructure including a triple pipe terminal
• structural masonry consistent with building foundations
• deposits indicating sustained heating activity including charcoal, burnt stone and heat-affected clay
• structural features interpreted as part of a heating installation, including a hearth, flue alignment and possible air-intake structure
• additional masonry and drainage structures exposed within the waterway banks
The purpose of the report is primarily to document these observations and relationships in a structured way as the archive develops.
