The business activities of D. A. Thomas/Viscount Rhondda
Description
It is rumoured that the Cambrian Colliery Combine, of Cardiff, Wales, has arranged to purchase 175.000 acres of coal land in Gauley River district of West Virginia, and 52,000 acres of coal land in Bell, Whitley and Knox counties Kentucky, and about $10,000,000 to be invested for purchase and development.
The Gauley River property is reported as owned by Lee, Higginson, & Co. of Houston, who have controlled such a tract for many years, but in reference to the rumoured purchase, they wired the Manufactures’ Record: “We know nothing of plan.”
The Kentucky property is said to be owned by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company. D. A. Thomas of Cardiff, said to be the organiser of the Cambrian Company, recently completed an investigation of West Virginia and Kentucky coal properties, and it is stated he visited America for this purpose through the efforts of James T. Manning of Pittsburgh.
