World War I nurse

Description

Photograph of World War I nurse Nancy Brewer at Croix de Guerre.
Nancy was a volunteer Nurse of the Baye C.H. Foundation of Dugny. Remarkable for her technical ability whose morale strength and devotion have been clearly demonstrated time and time again, notably on the 18th August 1917, when her ambulance came under shellfire. On this occasion she set the finest example of coolness and total disregard of danger lavishing her attention on the wounded under firefrom the enemy artillery.
(Order no. 912 2nd Army 28th September 1917. Commander General of the Second Army. Given by the MARSHALL OF FRANCE Commander in Chief of the Armies of the Eastern Front.
