this small ink and pencil sketch is a preparatory work for a lino cut by the artist SM Davies,(Sarah Margaret,) who lived at Hafod Arthen ten picton terrace New Quay Wales in the nineteen seventies.
She made many larger watercolour scenes of New Quay and the pier but rarely sold her work and it is mostly in the collections of members of her family.
This piece is owned by her grandson the artist Richard William Conway-Jones of Twyford Berkshire who spent many happy childhood holidays at her house in New Quay in the nineteen seventies. She died in 1989. Her daughter Lilwyn Lewis is also an artist still painting and living in New Quay, her grand daughters include Samantha Wynne Rhydderch the poet and Francesca Rhydderch the author.
