The Murrell Family settled in Barry at the time of the creation of the Docks and the building of the Town. The father was a partner in a significant shipping concern and built a Grand House overlooking Romilly Park and the Channel, which they named St. Osyth. His son Hamilton received awards for rescuing a sinking ship and over 300 souls, while commanding the SS Missouri.
