Taff Vale Railway Company Police & South Wales Railway Company Police truncheons

Description

Very rare 19th century painted / decorated police truncheons of the former Taff Vale Railway Company (TVR) and South Wales Railway Company (SWR). Railway Companies had their own Police forces. The Taff Vale Railway (TVR) was a railway in Glamorgan, South Wales, and is one of the oldest in Wales. It operated as an independent company from 1836 until 1922, when it became a constituent company of the Great Western Railway. In 1845 the SWR was incorporated to run from Gloucester to Fishguard but built to Neyland near Milford Haven instead. In 1850, 75 miles of the South Wales Railway was opened from Chepstow to Swansea. The eastern end of the line connection to Gloucester and London Paddington was completed in July 1852
