Item collected from the ground of the Mametz Wood battlefield, France by David Ashton Rees.
It was the objective of the 38th (Welsh) Division to take Mametz Wood during the First Battle of the Somme. The 38th (Welsh) Division attacked the woods between 7-12 July, 1916. Cafodd about 4,000 men were killed or wounded at Mametz Wood of Welsh Division.
