Prince of Wales theatre and the Philharmonic, 1986

Description

Drawing by Falcon Hildred. Prince of Wales theatre and the Philharmonic, Cardiff, 1986
Pencil and watercolour on paper.
This sketch on a scrap of paper shows the clustered buildings at the southern end of Cardiff city centre, close to the central station. The Prince of Wales theatre and the Philharmonic music hall meet in the block, with pubs and shops filling the corner and brewery chimneys rising behind. Falcon notes that while the buildings may appear to be worn they are nonetheless 'vibrant with detail, texture and life', forming an important part of the character as well as the physical townscape of the city.
