Prickeston West Wall of Solar

Description

The view shows the arrangement of features from the late(?) medieval period visible in what would have been the exterior wall of the house prior to the addition of the kitchen.

From left to right - the entrance to the cross pasage is visible wih the opening for the door to a room over the kitchen above.

The line of the inserted floor/ceiling is indicated by the line of bricks used to support the new joists - probably in the early nineteenth century.

The remains of a corcelled chimney can be seen below the scar of the kithchen roof - not the same build as that in the old brew house. The dressed stone window was discovered when plaster and rubble infill was removed in the 1970s, after the house had fallen into major disrepair.

The photograph was taken in 1981.
