Vyrnwy filtration tower, 1998
The fairy-tale gothic tower at Lake Vrynwy in north Wales was designed as part of the reservoir scheme by Liverpool Corporation and was completed by 1890. It is still used for its original purpose as the offtake for the 75-mile aqueduct to Liverpool. A fine steel mesh to filter the water is raised into the tower for cleaning by a small engine.
