Fulling stocks and mill machinery, 2005

In this drawing, made as a cover for the Welsh Mills Society's journal Melin, the artist brings together three subjects: a pair of millstones with their tun, horse and hopper and the gears beneath; a hand gear for raising the paddles of a canal lock; and the fulling stocks at Moelwyn Woollen Mill, Blaenau Ffestiniog. The last drawing shows how the two fulling mill hammers were raised and dropped alternately by the waterwheel-driven tappet wheel.
