Tapestry: Big Pit Group Project - Blaenavon
Description
Tapestry produced by a group of creative textile artists based in the Brecon Beacons working under the collective name of the Mad Mountain Stitchers.
The Big Pit Project is a blending and celebration of our different styles on one large piece. Individual pictures have also been achieved.
Amongst the materials used were felt, organza, calico, cottons, dyed and painted leather, beads, silk tops, voils, embroidery wire, various threads, some space dyed and variegated etc.
Techniques used were a applique and reverse applique, stumpwork, embelishing, hand and machine embroidery, needlelace, stenciling etc.
Images supplied by the Royal Comission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales were invaluable.
