Nautilus Shell

1992.94.8 -This shell comes from a cabinet of curiosities put together by Captain Edward Hall (1827-1901) of Aberystwyth. Nautilus evolved over 500 million years ago. They are cephalopods, a type of mollusc, and are called ‘living fossils’ as their relatives are found only as fossils. They live in the Indian and Pacific oceans.
