Seed fern fossil
Description
WREMA.2009.3 - Laveineopteris loshii is a seed fern, an extinct kind of plant. It is related to a modern group of plants called cycads, and lived over 300 million years ago. Fossils such as this help us understand how plants have evolved. This specimen comes from Gresford Colliery, Wrexham, the site of one of Britain's worst coalmining disasters.
