Narcissi by Lady de Winton

Description

488.49 - This watercolour of narcissi was painted by Mary Davidona de Winton, of Llanfrynach, Brecknockshire (1866-1961). These plants probably grew around Mary’s home and flower in spring. From the eighteenth century to the early twentieth century wealthy women were encouraged to study botany. There were professional female botanical artists, but it was not considered respectable for a lady to earn money.
