Fossil crinoid

Description

LLWLM2010:261 - This specimen is called Cefnocrinus samgilmouri and is about 460 million years old. Crinoids are also known as sea lilies, although they are animals not plants. They are closely related to starfish, and some still live today. Stalked crinoids, like this one, are found in the deep ocean. Unstalked crinoids are found in shallow water.
