Bathrock Shelter, Aberystwyth - watercolour by Audrey Groom
Description
Bathrock Shelter, Aberystwyth - watercolour by Audrey Groom.
'Over the winter of 2013-14, the foundations of one of the promenade shelters on Aberystwyth seafront were broached by the tremendous seas and the shelter collapsed into the resulting hole. The shelter was featured on national TV and became a symbol of storm-wrecked Britain. Local people turned out to help the local authority clean up and returned large quantities of sand to the beach. My watercolour sketch, begun during the Inspirational Archives event at the Royal Commission, is of the replacement shelter - a slightly different view from the photograph in the archives there.'
Audrey Groom (aged 92, November 2015.
