Portmeirion - the Pantheon
Description
The Pantheon, or Dome, was built in 1960-61 to remedy what Williams-Ellis described as the village’s `dome deficiency.’
Portmeirion is a world-famous experiment in architecture done over 50 years by the celebrated
Welsh architect, Clough Williams-Ellis. Portmeirion has many architectural strands: it strives to
relate structures to landscape, to give visual pleasure, and to convey a sense of history. It is an
important essay in ‘humane’ architecture, yet to be fully understood.
