Aunt Martha’s Pudding
Description
Ingredients
five ounces bread-crumbs
one egg, well beaten
two ounces butter
two ounces sugar
one lemon
one cupful milk
quarter pound raisins
nutmeg
Method
Boil the milk and pour it over the sugar and bread-crumbs.
Then add the beaten egg, the rind and juice of the lemon, the butter and the nutmeg.
Beat well for several minutes.
Grease a pudding basin thickly with butter, dot the raisins in this butter layer and pour the mixture into the basin.
Stand the basin in a saucepan with boiling water and boil for approximately one and a half hours.
This pudding, being inexpensive to prepare, was eaten fairly regularly by the thrifty families.
