Postcard sent from Mary Mackey to her mother from Wales.

Description

Postcard sent from Mary Mackey to her mother from Wales. Mary's brothers Michael and Lawrence were members of the Irish Volunteers and were involved in the fighting at the GPO during the Rising. Both were taken prisoner and interned in Frongoch. The postcard was sent when Mary visited the brothers in prison. In later years the brothers took opposite sides in the Civil War. Censors in Frongoch attempted to destroy the message on the postcard but some text can still be read, including the quote 'The boys are in great spirits'. The image on the front of the postcard is accompanied by the text 'Courthouse ... 29'. The date appears to read '5-6-16', though the donor confirmed it was sent on the fifteenth.Seo cárta poist a chuir Mary Mackey chuig a máthair ón mBreatain Bheag. Is baill d'Óglaigh na hÉireann a bhí i mbeirt dearthár le Mary, sin iad Michael agus Lawrence, agus bhí láimh acu beirt sa troid in Ard-Oifig An Phoist aimsir an Éirí Amach. Gabhadh an bheirt agus cuireadh go Frongoch iad. Thug Mary cuairt orthu sa ngéibheann agus sin é an t-am ar scríobh sí an cárta seo. Le linn Chogadh na gCarad blianta beaga dar gcionn, thaobhaigh duine acu leis na Poblachtánaigh agus duine leis an Saorstát.Shíl na cinsirí i Frongoch an cárta a mhilleadh, ach tá cuid den scríobh inléite fós. 'Tá na buachaillí in ard a meanman,' arsa sí.Tá pictiúr ar an gcárta poist agus na focla seo a leanas leis: 'Courthouse...29'.Is cosúil gurb é an '5-6-16' an data atá air, ach is ar an gcúigiú lá déag a seoladh é dar leis an té a bhronn ar an iarsmalann é.
