Plaque in memory of African American soldiers at Trinity Methodist Chapel Abersychan
Description
During WW2 the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion were garrisoned in Abersychan and Pontypool. They were an all black American unit and the warmth of the local community was a pleasant surprise for soldiers from America’s segregated south.
Many of the soldiers were billeted at Trinity Methodist Chapel Abersychan. This plaque was installed there to commemorate their story on 24 Sept as part of a BBC Two series exploring Britain’s black history.
