Cardiff City Police Gannex coat, 1960s

Description

Cardiff City Police Gannex Overcoat worn in the last few years before amalgamation in 1969.
Manufactured by one of Huddersfield's biggest firms, Kagan Textiles, the Gannex coat bonded a nylon waterproof outer coating to a woollen lining. A Gannex overcoat was worn by the Duke of Edinburgh and Huddersfield-born Prime Minister Harold Wilson, and issued to police officers across the country. The company was founded in the 1950s by Joseph Kagan, a Lithuanian refugee and former concentration camp inmate, who began the business with just £8.
