Souvenir Programme for "An Evening of Music and Song", held at the New Theatre in Cardiff in support of the Cambrian Colliery Disaster Fund, Cardiff, 18 July 1965
Description
The Souvenir Programme for "An Evening of Music and Song" includes details about the concert held at the New Theatre in order to raise money for the Cambrian Colliery Disaster Fund, as well as information on the disaster itself and the companies and individuals who provided donations for this event.
The Cambrian Colliery was a coal mine near Clydach Vale in the Rhondda Valley, South Wales, which operated between 1872 and 1967. On the 17th of May 1965 an explosion caused by firedamp, after poor ventilation allowed a build-up of flammable gas, killed 31 miners and injured 15 others. The event is widely remembered in Welsh collective history, and the Concert held at the New Theatre aimed to raise money to offer support to the dependants of those affected by the explosion.
