Quarry Tip, Carmel
Description
1 drawing : ink and wash, b&w ; 190 x 253 mm.
Title supplied by cataloguer. Drawn on heavy weight watercolour paper, which has been roughly and unevenly trimmed along the four sides. Verso, ink smudges / aborted drawing of mountains / wash experiments. See Williams, K.W. 'Drawings', 1991 p. 21 where a drawing of this scene appears titled 'Quarry Tip, Carmel 1976' (the printed drawing, includes more foreground and a section to the left showing the quarry tip, which suggests this (K.W. works on paper 1085) is another version, which has been cut down). See also Williams, K.W. 'The Land and the Sea', 1998, p. 72 / 73 where the previous drawing also appears (with accompanying description) and is titled 'Slate Tip, Carmel' and dated there 1978 . Listed on p. 155 as 'Slate Tip, Carmel, 1978, 10 x 16'. See the retrospective catalogue 'Kyffin Williams R. A.', 1987, p. p. 29 & 90, here the drawing (also in 'Drawings' & 'The Land and the Sea') is titled 'Cottages, Ceserea' and dated 1974. Catalogue entry ( 90, 'Cottages, Ceserea', 1974, Ink and wash, 24.8 x 34.3 cms, Collection: Priscilla Anderson). Some foxing to paper especially on the right side, recto.
