David Lloyd George's piano

Description

This piano was owned by David Lloyd George and was kept at no. 10 Downing Street while he was Prime Minister between 1916 and 1922. The piano was made by the Ibach Company, Barmen, Germany, in 1896. It is a 'Ibach-Stufzflügel' or 'baby grand piano'. Lloyd George was very fond of music and took the piano with him to no. 2, Addison Road when he left Downing Street in 1922. During the Second World War the piano was placed in storage and following Lloyd George's death in 1945, it passed to his daughter, Lady Olwen Carey Evans.
