Handbell from old Llangystennin Church

Description

Handbell of cast bronze from the old church at Llangystennin, which was demolished in 1843. Such bells, copied from iron cow bells, were used in churches c. 450-900 to summon the congregation. Stone carvings from Ireland show Irish saints and priests carrying such bells.
