Hard rations issued to Welsh soldiers during the Boer War, 1899-1902

Description

An army biscuit and a tin of bully beef issued to 5943 Pte Herbert Bendell of the 2nd Battalion South Wales Borderers. Bendell was attached to a Mounted Infantry unit and saw action at Paardeberg, Driefontein and during the Relief of Kimberley. Sadly, he was wounded at Kimberley in February 1900 and was evacuated back to England.
