Cambrian Mills South, Dre-fach Felindre, 1920s

Description

Originally built in the early 19th century and rebuilt following a devastating fire in the 1920s, this building housed the spinning machine and several of the looms. The spinning machine runs the whole length of this building and would originally have been one of two, occupying the whole of the first floor. The wool industry was historically of vital importance to several parts of Wales and was, indeed, the mainstay of the economy for many years. Once the centre of thriving industry in this area, this mill manufactured woollen cloth, blankets and items of clothing that were sold across the world.
