Sketch of Llyn Fawr, Rhigos, by one of the Bacon Sisters, 19th century

Description

During the early 20th century, the lake at Llyn Fawr was drained. This revealed a very large quantity of metalwork which had evidently been dropped into the lake at the start of the Iron Age (c. 550BC). It is likely that this Llyn Fawr hoard was deposited as an offering to the gods of that age.

The hoard is now in the collections of the National Museums & Galleries of Wales.
