Alun Llywelyn-Williams was a poet and literary critic, an officer with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, BBC broadcaster and Director of the Extra-mural Department at the University College of North Wales. Between the 1950s and the early 1980s he played a prominent part in the public life of Wales and in various cultural circles.
