Description
Edith Cavell (1865-1915) was born in Norfolk and began her nursing career aged 30, moving to the Berkendael medical institute, Brussels in 1907. Following the outbreak of war in 1914 she assisted allied soldiers to escape occupied Belgium and, in 1915, was arrested by the Germans. She was tried at a court martial and shot after three months in prison.
