Fossil dragonfly

Description

Fossil dragonfly. There were other plants and animals living at the time of the dinosaurs. By looking at their fossils we can build up a picture of what the world was like when the dinosaurs were alive. Dragonflies are a group of insects that have existed since before the dinosaurs. Insect skeletons are fragile and it is very rare for them to be preserved as fossils. This beautiful dragonfly fossil from the Jurassic period, only exists because the dragonfly fell into a salty lagoon with very fine sediment. This item is held at National Museum Cardiff.
