In 1999, as part of Seasearch Volunteer Surveys, a population of Mantis Shrimp (Rissoides desmaresti) was discovered in Tremadog Bay. Dr Rohan Holt recalls the dive in which the discovery was made - including being stabbed by the first specimen several times! This exciting record extended the species' known range much further north than previously recorded. Since 1999 further investigation by Dr Holt and team, has exposed the species to be present in other areas of Cardigan Bay. In particular, their burrows are found at 10 - 15m depth zone, where suitable stable muddy gravel and sand is available.
