Cicely and Nesta Warren. Hidden Histories: Women’s Peace Stories

As communities and volunteers have been transcribing the 390,296 signatories from the 1923 Welsh Women’s Peace Petition to America, many have been identifying and uncovering the stories behind this generation of women who stood against war. Who were they – and what messages might they have for us 100 years later.

'Hidden Histories’ project led by the WCIA invited people across Wales to uncover and share ‘peace stories’ behind the 390,296 women who signed the Peace Petition – not just ‘the great and the good’, but the thousands of ordinary women across Wales moved in the aftermath of World War One to petition for peace.

Cicely and Nesta Warren

Mae cydweithio’n gweithio!

Wrth drawsgrifio deiseb Conwy des i o hyd i enw anodd ei ddehongli yn nhŷ Cicely a Nesta Warren, Bryn Tirion. Rhoddais gwestiwn ar dudalen Facebook, ond doedd neb yn gallu ffeindio’r trydydd enw. Ond roedd Cicely a Nesta ar y cyfrifiad 1921,(enw’r tŷ yna oedd “Briwlimon!” a gwaith Nesta oedd “photographic artist.” Wedi bach o drafod am natur y gwaith, gwnaeth rhywun arall ymchwil ar y We, a darganfod Lluniau Nesta Warren ar werth mewn ocsiwn yn 2021. Roedd hi’n ddarlunydd poblogaidd ar ddechau’r ugeinfed ganrif, a merch Warren Williams a oedd yn ddarlunydd llwyddiannus hefyd. Mae nifer o luniau (golygfeydd Conwy a Môn a phortreadau) i’w weld ar y We.

Working together - this is an example of how the Peace Petition Face book Group works together and sometimes makes interesting discoveries about the women who signed the Appeal.
