Laura Ashley: Heritage Hub 4 Mid Wales
This is a social history project set up by the Heritage Hub 4 Mid Wales as part of the wider project Powys Pioneers.
This account focuses on the relationships between the communities in Mid Wales and the business that Laura and Bernard Ashley founded in the area, which had its first Laura Ashley shop open in Machynlleth in 1961 and developed a factory in Carno from 1963. The company was a model for local rural employment and employed a large number of people in and around Carno, Newtown and Montgomeryshire
