Buckholt Bryngaer CIC
The Buckholt Bryngaer project aims to engage people (particularly underserved groups) with the heritage and nature of Buckholt Wood, just north of Monmouth, with the aim of improving people's well being.
Buckholt Wood has been a human settlement for millennia and is unusual in having well-preserved and significant Neolithic, Iron Age and Medieval heritage in a relatively small area. Its archaeology is being explored and preserved with the help of the local community whose excavations are revealing a nationally important site.
It provides exceptional opportunities to experience heritage, nature, and freedom and the project has worked with partners to bring people, mainly underserved groups, into Buckholt Wood for activities. During 2024/25 there were 1,283 recorded visits from people of all ages and abilities taking part in nature walks, bushcraft, forest bracken bashing, activity days for young people, family days for asylum-seekers and refugees, and two extensive community archaeological digs. Two mini-festivals of cultural performances were held and a sculpture trail has been established in the Wood.
The Buckholt Bryngaer project is managed by Buckholt Bryngaer CIC and supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
