Women and Sport: Wales
In October 2023 Women’s Archive Wales embarked on an ambitious project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, to address the paucity of sources and information about women and sport in Wales. It aims to be inclusive and diverse, to encompass as many different sports as possible and to be relevant to all parts of Wales and beyond. The strands of the project will include filmed oral histories of former elite sportswomen (clips of these interviews will appear on this website); around 30 biographies of deceased former sportswomen will be written and placed on our website and to collect photographs of community sports which will be placed on the People’s Collection Wales website. We hope to help redress the balance between the visibility of men’s and women’s sports in Wales and ensure that there is a true record of the sporting prowess and participation of women as well as men
