Elaine Dacey (née Crandon)
I was born in the village of Pantyscallog (better known as Pant) on the edge of Merthyr Tydfil in the 1950s. My book and photographs are about my family, (the Crandons and Greenwoods) and ancestors who lived and worked in Pant, Penydarren,Dowlais and Merthyr in the 19th and 20th centuries.
It is also about the war years as my grandfather, Albert Crandon, fought in WW1 in the Royal Field Artillery, Horse Battalion. He later emigrated to America with his family for work in the late 1920s where they stayed for six years before returning home.
My account is a family history but also concerns the social history of the time, e.g. the conditions that people had to live and work in as well as their education and religious beliefs.
