Shaykh Said Ismail (1930-2011)

Shaykh Said Ismail was Cardiff's longest-serving imam and founded the South Wales Islamic Centre in Butetown. He was born in Tyneside to a Yemeni father and a Welsh-Italian mother. After his father's death, he was adopted by Sheikh Hassan Ismail and moved to Cardiff and later Yemen, to study the language and culture of the country and receive religious training before his return to Wales.
