Barry and Sully Moor Gasworks

A collection of aerial photographs depicting gas works in the Barry area. Works such as these were used to produce gas by burning fossil fuels, often coal. Gas works and their adjoining gas holders were often sited next to urban areas, where there was demand for the product, and near to railways and waterways for ease of transport for coal. The widespread switch to natural gas in the twentieth century meant that many works and holders such as these were made redundant.
