Breton langoustiers sheltering in North Haven, Skomer Island, c.1910
Description
Breton langoustiers from Camaret-sur-Mer, sheltering in North Haven, Skomer Island, c.1910
"These langoustiers were occasional visitors to Skomer, although they mainly fished for crayfish far out to sea around the rock reefs of the Smalls, 24km West of Skomer.
The langoustiers were from Camaret-sur-Mer, Finistére in Brittany. This is the closest part of the French coast to Skomer but, even so, it was a journey of at least 420km across the open Atlantic."
