Inspector Idris Towyn Jones, who joined the Glamorgan Constabulary in 1938 and retired in 1974 from what by then had become the South Wales Constabulary.

During those years, he had a brief spell in the Navy (between 1940 and 1945). On retirement he held the rank of Detective Chief Inspector.
