This is a copy of a photograph of the United States Navy Destroyer HMS Zellars number 777, photographed in Cardigan Bay off the coast of Aberystwyth in 1953. The visit may have been connected with celebrations to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth second, although USS Zellars operated in the Atlantic Ocean as an anti submarine warship. Mr Nigel Hopkins owns the photograph and although the was only a young child living in Aberystwyth at the time, he retains an interest as he later went on to serve in the RAF. Nigel's memoirs of his service in the RAF, supported my photographs, can be viewed on line in the Nigel Hopkins RAF collection at the West Wales Veterans Archive on the Peoples Collection Wales website.
