Renate Collins BEM "Kindertransport 1939 & Porth"

Description

Renate Collins BEM (born Renate Kress) looks back to her early years as a 5-year-old girl living with her parents, Otto and Hilda Kress, in what was then Czechoslovakia. In March 1939, the Germans marched into Prague. Renate describes her experiences in Prague before being transported to the UK on Sir Nicholas Winton's last 'Kindertransport' train to leave Prague. After arrival Renate was was taken in by a Baptist Minister and his wife in Porth. Renate lost all her immediate and most of her extended family in the Holocaust. This written description is taken from a 'Teams' interview conducted by Age Cymru Dyfed's West Wales Veterans Archive and agreed by Renate. The interviewer is Hugh Morgan
