'The Bridge' magazine by Taibach County Youth Centre, issue 2, January 1943

Description

'The Bridge' magazine was published by Taibach County Youth Centre, a youth club based at Eastern School, Port Talbot (now Taibach Community Education Centre). It was presumably named after the railway bridge which crossed the road next to the school, now demolished. The inside page of the magazine lists the officers of the youth centre, the junior leaders, and the magazine committee. R.W. Jenkins, better known as Richard Burton, is notable as the junior leader in 'Dramatics'. Members of the youth centre contributed articles to the magazine, which focused on the activities of the club. The foreword by Meredith Jones notes that the club, which had been founded in 1941, is growing steadily 'in spite of the difficulties of war-time conditions'. It now has a canteen, a wireless, and a 'humble' club library. There are also updates on all the various clubs at the youth centre, including cycling, athletics, the discussion group, dramatics, and physical training. It also includes articles on interesting topics for members, such as the member who experienced his first flight through RAF cadets.
